ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Chief Metallurgist directs the mill technical group in a safe and efficient manner consistent with optimizing metallurgical performance, production and financial objectives of the Pogo concentrator.  This position provides support and services to the Mine and Environmental departments and is responsible for managing four metallurgists and two metallurgical technicians.

Ensure metallurgical performance is optimized by providing effective support to the operations group by: developing economic analyses, forecasting circuit behavior, monitoring and analyzing the circuit's performance, and providing guidance to the operations group; Provide metallurgical, environmental and engineering expertise and support for Pogo Operations.  Conduct studies related to new or future developments or opportunities relevant to Pogo Operations; Ensure management is well informed by providing a reporting system for metallurgical accounting and plant operating history; Prepare models for predicting and forecasting weekly, monthly and annual gold recoveries; Responsible for cost control by: participating in annual budget preparation, providing input into capital budget planning, and monitoring, analyzing, and explaining variances; Monitor the performance of the mill with respect to costs, production and quality to ensure that production, quality and financial targets are met; Initiate, develop, and manage short-term and long-term projects to: improve plant metallurgical and/or cost performance; address problems; or lead to improvements in production quantities, concentrate quality or cost reduction; Coordinate the work of the metallurgical team to conduct projects and provide operating support in an efficient manner; Ensure that the technical skills of all technical and operating staff are developed.  Ensure that metallurgical staff develops professional skills and standards, and accept increasing levels of responsibility; Maintain a close working relationship with the Mine Geology and Mine Engineering groups in order to accurately predict and forecast metallurgical performance in the short and longer term; May substitute for the Mill Manager during his/her absence.

QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION:  Bachelor's degree in Metallurgical or Mineral Processing Engineering or other related field, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Master's degree preferred.
EXPERIENCE:  Six years' experience as a metallurgist or other relevant experience of which at least two years were gold processing experience.  Three years of this experience occurred in a management/supervisory capacity.  Experience with process control development and optimization.  Operational experience with crushing, milling, and flotation systems is required.
SKILLS: PI and process control data acquisition interfaces skills. Skilled with specialized computer applications (multi-element mass balance, modeling and simulation, statistical processing, Process Control/DCS, etc.).  Critical thinking skills and problem solving skills.  Strong planning and organizational skills.  Effective written, verbal, and communication skills to satisfy training, safety, and electronic message transmission policies of the company.  Demonstrated computer skills in Windows environment with experience in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and Outlook.
ABILITIES:  Ability to work efficiently with minimal supervision, ability to work in a team environment and adapt to changing priorities.   Ability to assume increasing levels of responsibility. Proven ability to read, comprehend, and apply information from technical manuals and other reference materials.  Ability to work in a team with a high regard for Quality and Environmental concerns and with a strong commitment to Safety and Safe Production. Ability to manage staff. Ability to resolve technical problems. Ability to incorporate process control aspects, and manage compliance with operating practices.
KNOWLEDGE: Knowledge in updating or improving the Metallurgical accounting software (entire system from downtime reporting to Dore accounting to month-end reconciliation). Knowledge to guide the Milling operation, including knowledge of details and operating guidelines of the equipment and the process and how to maximize overall performance. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of internal and external customers and suppliers.  Expert level knowledge of operating and production requirements including: Essential permits for operation (NPDES, Title V, etc.); Pollution prevention, Regulatory compliance, Ongoing improvement (P.R.O.); Dore specifications; Reagent contracts; Ore management; and Paste Backfill Paste Quality.
OTHER:  Must pass a post offer physical and drug test, as well as background check.
