Pogo Mine takes pride in hiring locally. Therefore, only applicants from Fairbanks, North Pole, Delta Junction, Tok, or the surrounding areas will be considered for this position.


Provides security coverage for the Mine site that includes inspection, documentation, intervention, and reporting.

  • Patrols the Mine site to detect and confirm equipment malfunction, security of doors, windows, equipment and gates, and intrusion.
  • Monitors and authorizes entrance and departure of employees, visitors, and other persons to guard against theft and maintain security of the site.
  • Inspects security systems, equipment, and machinery to ensure operational use and to detect evidence of malfunction or tampering.
  • Assist in the site-wide inspection of fire extinguishers, sprinkler, and alarm systems.
  • Recognizes and understands a medical emergency and reports immediately to Safety, Loss Control or Mill Control.
  • Notifies Safety or Mill Control in cases of emergency, such as alarms, fire or presence of unauthorized persons.
  • Responds to alarms and investigates disturbances.
  • Writes reports of shift activities and irregularities, such as equipment or property damage, alarms, theft, presence of unauthorized persons, or unusual occurrences.
  • Assists with security functions related to the Mill Refinery.
  • Has knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective local, state or national security operations for the protection of people and property.
  • Circulates among visitors and employees to preserve order and protect property.
  • Checks and takes charge of duty registers and log books from previous shift.
  • Manages site-wide keys, including making keys and documenting keys location and status.
  • Politely answers inquiries of personnel and directs them to appropriate staff.
  • Monitors behavior of suspicious persons and movement of vehicles and stores.
  • Provides animal hazing in accordance with Mine procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • EQUIPMENT USED A rotation schedule consisting of two weeks on/two weeks off at a remote campsite. Shift rotations alternate between Dayshift and Nightshift. Extreme conditions, including but not limited to changing weather conditions, dust, mud, varying levels of noise from low to high decibels, varying degrees of light and dark, in and around artificial light and in a confined work area 
  • Portable hand-held and multi-channel base-station radios, negative pressure respirator, firearms, electronic control devices (ECD's), handcuffs, traffic radar equipment, operation of electronic access-control systems, portable breath-test and urine-collection sample kits, digital camera systems, temperature gun/monitoring equipment, key-blank punch and grind-wheel key duplication machine, network-based computer, telephone and voice-mail systems, operation of general-purpose and emergency response vehicles, truck, ambulance, etc.; use of standard office equipment to include copier, fax, scanner and shredder.

    While the assertion of situational leadership is expected in emergency or hazardous situations, there is no formal supervisory or shift lead component associated with the Security Officer position.


    High school diploma or GED is required. Employee must have sufficient education to read and write instructions, perform simple mathematical calculations, and keep records. Preference may be given to applicants who have achieved post-secondary education credentials, particularly in areas relating to safety, crime, justice, and evidence management and control.


    Valid Driver's license is required. Previous training/certification and experience in firearms, wildlife hazing, and non-lethal force applications is preferred. Current MSHA certificate also preferred.


    Prior industrial-security, loss-control, and/or law enforcement experience is preferred. Other work experience in which the candidate has utilized mature judgment, a positive attitude, and effective de-escalation and problem solving techniques will also receive consideration. Preference may be given to candidates who have successful experience in work at our mine's remote camp through prior Pogo and/or residential contractor experience.



    Applicant should possess critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Applicant should be able to work independently with little direct supervision, and should possess exceptional judgment and people-skills in order to effectively address conflicts in a de-escalatory fashion. Effective written, verbal, and communication skills are needed to satisfy the delivery of training and safety messages and policies as required by the company. Demonstrated computer skills in Windows environment with experience in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.


    Ability to work efficiently with minimal supervision, ability to work in a team environment and adapt to changing priorities.   Ability to assume increasing levels of responsibility. Proven ability to read, comprehend, and apply information from technical manuals and other reference materials. Ability to work in a team with a high regard for quality and environmental concerns, along with a strong commitment to Safety and Safe Production.


    Operational knowledge of all above-referenced equipment.
