General Accountability

Manage and perform long-term planning for underground mine activities. Plan and manage projects for underground.

  • Develop and implement long-range mine plans, and strategic project evaluations
  • Work with Geology team to contribute to development drilling and geologic modeling work
  • Develop and implement improvement projects as assigned
  • Develop, communicate, and implement underground mine development designs and schedules for Pogo Mine consistent with safe practices, government regulations, and production targets
  • Perform mine design considering groundwater, backfill and mine ventilation network designs
  • Be able to both develop and implement ground control and support designs
  • Ability to support MPBX ground support monitoring system and data evaluation
  • Perform underground condition assessments as needed and make ground support recommendations and final designs as requested
  • Identify, communicate, and resolve safety hazards
  • After training and orientation be able to visit active underground mine areas independently for monitoring and learning of Pogo methods and systemsQUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or other closely related field is required.

Certificates & Licenses: Valid Driver's license is required.

Experience: Five to fifteen years progressively responsible relevant mining engineering work experience is required. Prefer underground mining experience. Prefer experience in Vulcan, MineCad or other mine design and scheduling software packages.

Skills: Advanced critical thinking skills and problem solving skills. Strong planning and organizational skills. Ability and desire to communicate effectively with mine operations group. Effective written, verbal, and communication skills to satisfy training, safety, and electronic message transmission policies of the company. Demonstrated computer skills in Windows environment with experience in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Be able to demonstrate software skills in Vulcan, Minecad, AutoCAD and EPS.

Abilities: Ability to work in a team environment with operations, engineering and geology groups. Ability to adapt to changing priorities.   Ability to assume increasing levels of responsibility. Proven ability to read, comprehend, and apply information from technical manuals and other reference materials. Ability to work in a team with a high regard for Quality and Environmental concerns and with a strong commitment to Safety and Safe Production. Ability to supervise and motivate employees. Ability to assess safety hazards. Ability to design and implement plans.

Knowledge: Advanced knowledge of underground mining methods and appropriate planning techniques. Knowledge of ventilation and water pumping network designs. Knowledge and interest in Geology. Knowledge of long-term and strategic plans.

Equipment Used

Personal computer, underground mine vehicle, computer software, miscellaneous office equipment, ventilation measuring equipment, and ground support monitors and testers 

Unusual Working Conditions

Extreme conditions, including but not limited to changing arctic weather conditions underground and on the surface. Conditions will be hot, extreme cold, dusty, muddy, over varying and uneven terrain and varying levels of noise. This is a site-based position with permanent camp and facilities. An extended rotational schedule of work at site is required, working 12 hour shifts.

 Leadership Responsibilities

Responsible for supervising two Engineers and/or Technicians that perform mine planning, design and project work. After 6 month orientation be willing and able to substitute for Chief Engineer in their absence.
