General Accountability

A senior level role within the geology department, the Senior Mine Production Geologist reports directly to the Chief Geologist and supervises the production geology staff; coordinates the efforts of his team with mine operations and engineering, and coordinates and reports on daily basis the issues and problems at various mining faces.


The Sr. Mine Production Geologist attends the weekly productivity meeting, stope planning and production meeting, providing insight and guidance on geological issues. Responsible for the accuracy of data input into the ore control database as well as the timely and accurate completion of the daily production report and stope pass down report. This person also ensures that face sampling is standardized and is of sufficient quality and quantity to provide an accurate predictor of the tenor of both ore and waste.

Other duties are to complete rib mapping of underground stopes, and data entry into the geological database; providing the most up to date information for engineering and the geological modeling group. 

This position serves as the designated representative between the mine and contract underground drillers in the absence of the Sr. Mine Drilling Geologist. 

Conducts detailed underground geological investigations as necessary and as directed by the Chief Geologist, focusing on near term mining goals and needs.Provides stope and pre-production drilling suggestions to the Chief Geologist, the Senior Mine Drilling Geologist, and to the modeling group on production, mining, and geologic improvements.The safety of staff is the priority of the Senior Mine Production Geologist and the incumbent will ensure that the staff is properly trained in all applicable SOPs and will provide additional support through safety meetings and safety interactions.


Education: Minimum Bachelors' degree in Geology. Master's degree with focus in economic geology preferred. 

Certificates, Licenses and Registrations: Valid Driver's license is required. MSHA certificate required. Professional Geologist designation as defined by Qualified Person from NI 43-101, or ability to obtain certification within 6 months. 

Experience: Minimum 8 years mining experience, with at least 4 years in underground production role, with experience in narrow vein gold mining being a distinct advantage.  

Skills: Strong mineral/rock identification skills required. Must possess effective written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated computer skills in Windows environment with experience in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Must have ability to learn new software programs including Vulcan, GEMS, and Pogo Logger. 

Abilities: Must be able to lift 50 pounds regularly, from floor to chest level without injury. Ability to stand for long periods of time. Ability to work efficiently with minimal supervision. Ability to work in confined spaces and tight corridors, as well as, working closely around moving, rotating, electrically energized, and elevated equipment in a safe and efficient manner.   Ability to work in a team with a high regard for quality and environmental concerns and with a strong commitment to safety and safe production. Demonstrated leadership capabilities.

Knowledge: Strong back ground in ore control and production Geology. Focus on ore deposits, geochemistry, structure, and geostatistics is a must. Working understanding of Interior Alaskan geology, especially the metamorphic terrains preferred.
