As the Environmental Department's primary fieled position, conducts environmental compliance monitoring activities and inspections.


Conduct environmental compliance monitoring activities such as collecting and processing water and waste samples, maintaining and calibrating equipment, maintaining tools and equipment, making and documenting observations, maintaining logbooks, and entering data into the Environmental Data Management System (EDMS).

Conduct environmental compliance inspections for SPCC, SWPPP, RCRA, and Certificate to Operate a Dam as required by Pogo Mine's permits and environmental plans.

Develop and implement Environmental Awareness training, obtain Visible Emission (VE) certification and conduct VE readings and support and assist with report preparation and permitting efforts. 

Activities are directed by Environmental Coordinator, Sr. Environmental Coordinator, Environmental Engineer or Sr. Environmental Engineer, but positions reports to Environmental Manger.  


Provide general oversight and/or assistance to consultants and/or contractors and/or site personnel as directed. 


EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree in Environmental Studies, Biology, Geology, Hydrogeology, or other related field, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

CERTIFICATES & LICENSES: Valid driver's license.

EXPERIENCE:Two years work experience in the environmental field or some other relevant field. Prefer experience in the mining industry.

SKILLS: Critical thinking skills and problem solving skills. Strong planning and organizational skills. Effective written, verbal, and communication skills to satisfy training, safety, and electronic message transmission policies of the company. Demonstrated computer skills in Windows environment with experience in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

ABILITIES: Ability to work efficiently with minimal supervision. Ability to work in a team environment. Proven ability to read, comprehend, and apply information from laws, regulations, permits, reports, technical specifications, material safety data sheets, publications, and other reference materials. Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks and work safely with a high regard for quality and environmental concerns. Ability to conduct compliance activities and investigations. Ability to provide oversight and assist staff or contractors.

KNOWLEDGE: Basic knowledge of state and federal environmental laws, regulations and permits as well as company policy. Basic report writing knowledge. Knowledge of environmental monitoring.


Light duty pickup truck with and without a trailer, 6-wheeler, boat, snow machine, office equipment such as computer, printer, copier and scanner, radio, shovel, broom, hand tools, sampling equipment such as pH, temperature, TDS, Conductivity meters, small generator, well pumps, pressure transducers, and met station data loggers.


A rotation schedule consisting of two weeks working and one week off at a remote campsite. Eighty percent (80%) of time may be field work with extreme conditions, including but not limited to changing weather conditions, dust, mud, varying levels of noise from low to high decibels, varying degrees of light and dark, in and around artificial light and in a confined work area. Twenty percent (20%) of time is in an office environment. Requires staying at the company-provided camp during the work rotation. Camp facilities provide dining service, game room, exercise & weight room, sauna, and dorm room having phone, internet & cable TV.

TRANSPORTATION: The company provides bus service to and from Fairbanks, Delta Junction or Tok.
